Water Sources
Water System
Water is taken from the Rainy River through a 24-inch pipe to the Water Treatment Facility. After approximately three hours of treatment, water is pumped to the ground storage tank. From there, water is pumped to the elevated storage tank and to the distribution system. The ground and elevated tanks:
  • Equalize operating pressures
  • Provide emergency storage
  • Provide storage for fluctuating demands
  • Provide storage for fire fighting

How It Gets to You
The distribution system carries the water to the individual water user.

Conserving Water
Use these tips and techniques to conserve water and possibly lower your bill.
  • Fix leaky faucets and running toilets quickly. Both waste vast amounts of water.
  • Install a shower flow controller. It reduces the flow of water without diminishing the shower spray.
  • Keep a bottle of water in the refrigerator instead of running tap water until it's cold enough to drink.
  • Run only full loads in the washing machine and dishwasher.
  • Water your lawn early in the morning or in the evening when there is less evaporation.
