    CANVASSING BOARD

November 12, 2020

 

The City of International Falls’ City Council convened a Canvassing Board meeting held in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building on Thursday, November 12, 2020, at the hour of 4:00 P.M.

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:    Councilors Buller and Ditsch.

    Mayor Droba, Councilor Briggs, media, and public via BlueJeans Conferencing. All members noted they could hear the others and the discussion.    

MEMBERS ABSENT:    Councilor Krause

OTHERS PRESENT:    Betty Bergstrom, Deputy City Administrator; Ken Anderson, City Administrator; and Emma Rud, Administration Support Specialist

 

 

The following votes were cast in the ballots tabulated for the municipal offices in the November 3, 2020 General Election and were presented to the Canvassing Board by Deputy City Administrator Betty Bergstrom:

“Do you vote for the ordinance to allow the keeping of chickens in the City of International Falls, Minnesota, as submitted by petition of electors?”

The tally sheets were reviewed by the Canvassing Board.

    

ACCEPTED ELECTION RETURNS AS PRESENTED

Upon review and consideration of the tally sheets for the three (3) voting Wards of the City, presented by the Deputy City Administrator, and canvassing of the returns, the consensus of the City Council as the Canvassing Board is to accept the returns.

 

MOTION by Councilor Briggs to accept and approve the number of votes cast for the November 3, 2020 general election results for each of the three Wards as attached; and furthermore, hereby declare Harley M. Droba as Mayor-elect, Mike Holden as At-Large Councilor-elect, and that City Question 1 “Do you vote for the ordinance to allow the keeping of chickens in the City of International Falls, Minnesota, as submitted by petition of electors?” shall not become a valid and binding ordinance of said City due to insufficient votes to approve. Motion seconded by Councilor Buller and carried unanimously. The Abstract and Return of Votes Cast certification document was distributed for signing and all members present of the City Council executed the document (see attached).

 

Mayor Droba also recognized and thanked Deputy City Administrator Betty Bergstrom, staff, and election judges for the long hours, dedication, and excellent coordination of activities exhibited working with Tom West, Koochiching County Auditor, in running an accurate and smooth election during a pandemic with unusual circumstances.

   

CERTIFICATES OF ELECTION

Certificates of election will be issued to the following candidates when the deadline date for contesting elections has passed:

ADJOURNMENT 

Mayor Droba adjourned the Canvassing Board meeting at 4:10 P.M.
