May 21, 2019 Public Hearing on proposed U.S. Highway 53 Reconstruction Project


The City of International Falls’ City Council will hold a PUBLIC HEARING on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building, 600 4th Street, International Falls, MN, 56649. The purpose of the hearing is to receive public comment and input in writing and in person on the proposed U.S. Highway 53 Reconstruction Project and Municipal Consent and City approval process. The project as proposed will 1) reduce traffic capacity and the number of driving lanes and narrow their width, 2) alter driveways and street access, 3) may require acquisition of permanent right of way/easements, 4) improve ADA accessibility at noncompliant sidewalks and curb ramps, 5) improve the roadway structural condition and ride, 6) construct a new storm sewer system, 7) install continuous street lighting, and 8) utilize a “complete streets” design approach to include a paved trail for pedestrians and bicyclists and grass boulevard for green space, tree plantings, and snow storage. MnDOT officials will discuss the project purpose, design, schedule, estimated costs, maintenance responsibilities, and answer any questions. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
