A special meeting of the City Council of the City of International Falls, Minnesota was held in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building on the 26th day of September, 2022 at the hour of 5:04 P.M.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Councilors Ditsch, Holden, Krause, and Mayor Droba.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Councilor Buller
ADOPTED Resolution No. 61-2022 approving the 2023 Preliminary Budget and Levy | MOTION by Councilor Ditsch to adopt Resolution No. 61-2022 approving the 2023 Preliminary Budget and Levy. Motion seconded by Councilor Holden.
Mayor Droba shared that this budget cycle was smoother than previous years, but still a difficult exercise. A preliminary 5.91 percent levy increase has been presented for a total increase of $200,608. Mayor Droba noted that at one point the projected levy increases were as high as 14 percent, but there were significant cuts made to various departments. City Administrator Bergstrom emphasized that many departments are operating under very lean budgets already, leaving little to no room for cuts and thanked the staff for their work in the process. Mayor Droba further noted that this is a preliminary budget and between now and the final approval in December the City may decrease the budget and levy. The Truth-in-Taxation Public Hearing and Input meeting will be held at 6:00 P.M. on December 5, 2022, with the final budget scheduled to be approved at the regular City Council meeting on December 19, 2022 at 5:30 P.M. Motion carried unanimously. |
ADJOURNMENT | Mayor Droba adjourned the meeting at 5:09 P.M. |
Harley M. Droba, Mayor
