A special meeting of the City Council of the City of International Falls, Minnesota was held in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building on the 29th day of December 2025 at the hour of 10:00 A.M.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Dill and Councilors Buller, Holden, Kalar, and Wegner
MEMBERS ABSENT: None
| APPROVED Mayoral appointment of Investigator Scott Wherley to Chief of Police effective January 5, 2026 | Mayor Dill requested the council to concur with his recommendation of Mr. Scott Wherley for Chief of Police for the City of International Falls. Noting all three candidates that applied for the position were very well qualified to be the chief and lead the officers and department. Mayor Dill stated he chose Investigator Wherley based on his education and work experience. Investigator Wherley is a well-rounded candidate for this position having served in multiple leadership roles across the State of Minnesota including the position of Chief in the City of Blackduck, MN. Mayor Dill recommended the starting salary at 80% of the current chief’s salary until an employment agreement can be reached within a timeline not later than six weeks from date of appointment.
MOTION by Councilor Wegner to approve Mayoral appointment of Investigator Scott Wherley to Chief of Police effective January 5, 2026, with a starting salary of 80% of the current chief’s salary until an employment agreement can be reached within a timeline not later than six weeks from date of appointment. Motion seconded by Councilor Buller and carried unanimously.
Mayor Dill noted that Scott Wherley will take an Oath of Office at the January 5, 2026 City Council meeting. |
